Green Spring Hounds

Green Spring Hounds Calendar

Generally, our calendar is published the first week of January, and our year typically looks like this:

Winter - Weekly indoor mounted or unmounted meetings beginning in January. These meetings sharpen the kids' knowledge base in preparation for the "Quiz" rally (competition) in late March. The kids also look at the opportunities and their goals for the year.

Spring - Weekly outdoor riding lessons and activities (weather permitting) begin as soon as footing is good. Our lessons are held at several local farms who are kind enough to allow us to use their facilities. Mounted rallies begin in April.

Summer - Rallies for riders of all levels occur throughout the summer and include: games, eventing, dressage, show jumping, tetrathlon, and polocrosse. We tend to have fewer lessons in the summer, and instead offer a summer riding camp, mounted trail rides to places like Gettysburg Battlefields or state parks, and educational trip to places like New Bolton Center. Pony Club National Championships occur in July.

Fall – We start weekly mounted lessons until the weather gets too bad. We also do fall field trips and projects, like man a Pony Club booth at the MD State Fair, and visit Barn Night at the Washington International Horse Show. Our year concludes with our annual Sponsorship meeting and Christmas party in November and December.

There are a few events and seminars that are open to nonmembers or perspective members, and these will be posted on our Calendar Page.  We encourage anyone interested in Pony Club to come see what we are all about!

The GSHPC sponsors the Maryland Region Tetrathlon Rally. Tetrathlon is held in late June. It is a competition in which the kids run, ride swim, and shoot air pistols. Two competitors from GS have even competed for the USPC International Tetrathlon team, an opportunity for junior members to travel and compete in different countries around the world.
